The Mortgage deposit calculator

What your deposit reaches: the property price it buys once the borrowing is added. It also shows what share of that price the deposit is, which is the number that decides the rate you are offered.

How to use the Mortgage deposit calculator

  1. Type your income and the deposit you have saved, and read the property price and the share the deposit covers.
  2. Type your own numbers. The result updates as you type.
  3. Copy the result, or change an assumption and watch what it does.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a bigger deposit help?

Twice over. Every extra pound of deposit is a pound you do not borrow, and crossing a threshold, typically ten, fifteen, twenty or twenty five percent of the price, moves you into a band with a lower rate. That second effect is often worth more than the first, which is why saving a little longer to cross a threshold can beat buying immediately.

How exact is it?

The arithmetic is exact and rounded the way money is, at the cent. What it cannot know is anything specific to you, so read it as the ordinary case rather than as advice.

Is anything uploaded?

Every figure is worked out in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, there is no sign-up, and no result is stored anywhere but on your own device.
